Prayer Time Calculation Methods

Zeen supports 17 calculation methods. They all compute the same sky; two things make them differ: the angle of the sun below the horizon, and the fixed minutes some methods add on top of that calculation.

How to read the table

The angle says how far the sun sits below the horizon: fajr is where morning twilight is taken to begin, isha where evening twilight is taken to end. The smaller the angle, the later fajr and the earlier isha.

Some methods add fixed minutes to the time the angle produces. That is usually why two methods with the same angle still show different times.

At high latitudes twilight never ends in summer. Most methods then fall back to the adhan library’s TwilightAngle rule; Diyanet instead caps them as a share of the night: at most 20.2% for fajr and at most 17.8% for isha.

Jafari and Tehran tie maghrib not to sunset but to the sun reaching 4° and 4.5° below the horizon.
